When I learned the word “Self Reliance” for the first time, It was from the internet and especially from Philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson. After learning about the word, I came to know that I am living the word more by myself before the discovery.

My self-reliance journey started because of my interest in solving problems. I was always interested to know how things work and if they aren’t working I would try to fix them up. I started taking responsibility for every problem myself and I tried to fix them up. Well, there are some problems in life when you can fix them up by yourself; you have to take the help of others. My reason for being self-reliant was the small set of people who denied my request whenever I asked them due to their reason. Initially, I was disappointed but later I thought if something means much more to me, I am the person who is responsible to make that happen. I cannot drag someone if they aren’t interested. I went ahead with this mindset in the voyage of my life. I felt much more liberated because I am the person who is influencing things, I am the person to make things happen.

The only problem with this is, It takes courage to go against the society/ common opinion. Once you start doing it, people will whip you off because of the displeasure of non-conformity. Yes, I sound arrogant or practical when I voice my independent opinion. Because of these little things sometimes I don’t connect to society. Well, I am not totally against society! I am supportive of what is good for larger people. But, Also is there any point in being carried away with the opinion of other people? You never know the truth. Currently, the majority of us have a sick mentality of consumption which is causing anxiety, resentment, and some health issue. Is it good to align yourself with such a society despite having your values?

Man cannot live alone and when he is an independent thinker, He can’t get carried away with society. I try to find the trade-off in being present with people and I prefer my solitude whenever I need it. If you have to take the path of self-reliance you have to start drawing boundaries for your values and always try to defend them. Hell, it is not easy when you are dependent on other people. It is okay to go alone to the places you want to go. It is okay to make things happen if others don’t believe you, at least you are putting in your effort.

In the end, you will be proud because you are inner self is making things happen for itself.
